The Moroccan government has established a new support program for 150 small-average-sized tourism enterprises in the Souss-Massa region to boost its appeal to tourists.
Through the implementation of incentive schemes, the initiative intends to promote tourist entrepreneurship by facilitating access to funding support, advice, and technical expertise.
The fruit of a partnership between the Department of Tourism, the Department of Finance, and the Moroccan Tourism Engineering Company (SMIT), this support program aims to restore investments in the Souss-Massa region to accelerate its post-COVID recovery.
The program targets both established small, medium-sized tourist establishments and new development projects in the tourism industry.

It favors entertainment-focused industries and innovative projects, with the aim of enriching and expanding the region’s tourist services.
“The tourism investment market in the destination of Agadir Souss Massa is more focused on the traditional offering of accommodation than on animation projects,” said the Regional Development Corporation, which is managing the program.
Activities that will be created as part of the program will allow for “structured leisure activities to be spread throughout the destination, characterized by their complementary components,” it added.
The main aim is to attract new investors to the Souss- Massa region to spur socio-economic advancements in the region as its tourism sector slowly recovers from the pandemic, say the program managers.
To implement this plan, they have set a goal of assisting at least 150 tourist startups over a three-year period. They estimate that this will help create more than 600 new employment opportunities in the region’s tourism industry.
