At a time when expectations from leadership continue to rise and many citizens are seeking tangible benefits from democratic governance, Hon. Agbarapo Samuel has called for a renewed focus on purposeful, compassionate, and result-driven leadership in Oyo State.
According to him, the people deserve more than promises. They deserve visible, measurable, and sustainable progress that reflects the true dividends of democracy.
Agbarapo, a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his aspiration is rooted in a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ordinary citizens and a genuine desire to bring governance closer to the people.
“The expectations of the people are high, and rightly so. Governance must go beyond words. It must translate into better roads, functional schools, accessible healthcare, security of lives and property, and real opportunities for all,” he said.
He noted that democracy must be felt in everyday life, not just during election cycles, stressing that leadership should be defined by impact and not position.
Agbarapo, who previously served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and currently serves as Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, described his approach to governance as people-centred and inclusive.
He outlined key areas of focus, including economic empowerment through job creation, support for small businesses, and increased investment in agriculture to drive food security and financial independence.
He also emphasised the importance of quality education, noting the need to revitalise schools, invest in teachers, and equip young people with relevant skills for the future.
On healthcare, he called for stronger primary healthcare systems and more affordable access to medical services, particularly for underserved communities.
Agbarapo further highlighted infrastructure development, including road construction and improved rural connectivity, as well as the need for strengthened collaboration between security agencies and local communities to ensure peace and stability across the state.
He also stressed the importance of youth and women inclusion, noting that empowering these groups is essential for building a more balanced and forward-looking society.
“With the right leadership, Oyo State can achieve sustainable growth that touches every community. Governance must be accountable, transparent, and inclusive,” he said.
Describing leadership as a responsibility rather than a privilege, Agbarapo said he remains committed to serving with integrity and dedication.
He added that the journey toward a better Oyo State requires collective effort and a shared commitment to progress.
His message, “Only what is good can move society forward, and it takes collective effort to achieve it,” reflects his belief that meaningful development can only be achieved through unity, responsibility, and purposeful leadership.
