The exit of several multinational detergent companies from the Nigerian market has opened up a new opportunity for local manufacturers to meet the growing demand for premium detergents. The gap left by these multinationals is now being filled by companies like Starium Holdings, which is working to cater to the increasing need for quality detergents in the country.
This was revealed by the Group Executive Director of BUA Group, Kabiru Rabiu, during a visit by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to the Starium Detergents facility located in Alaro City, Epe, Lagos State.
Rabiu highlighted that Starium Holdings has already made strides in addressing this challenge through its Starium and Rafa Detergents brands, which are available in multiple pack sizes, including 22g, 45g, 85g, 150g, and 900g sachets and bags. He also noted that the Starium facility is currently the second-largest detergent production plant in Nigeria.
The plant boasts state-of-the-art equipment, including the largest spray tower in the country, measuring 40 metres in height and 7.5 metres in width, supplied by a renowned Italian manufacturer known for producing high-quality and efficient machinery.
Rabiu, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Starium Holdings, explained that production began in 2024. He also announced plans to begin construction of a second production line within the facility. The company is also preparing to export some of its products to West African markets in the near future.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Starium for choosing Lagos as the location for the facility and commended the company for creating employment opportunities for the state’s residents. He expressed satisfaction with how local manufacturers are stepping up to fill the gaps left by the exit of multinational companies.
He stated that BUA Group’s decision to establish a new detergent production facility in Lagos underscores its commitment to deepening investment in the detergent consumer market. The proposed expansion will significantly enhance the company’s capacity to meet local demand.
