PalmPay unveils in-app AfriGO card requests

PalmPay has unveiled a new feature that allows users to request AfriGO payment cards directly within its mobile application, in a move aimed at widening access to card-based financial services and strengthening digital payment adoption nationwide.

The fintech firm said the integration enables customers to apply for the domestic payment card seamlessly through the app already used for transfers, bill payments and daily transactions, thereby simplifying access to formal financial tools.

AfriGO is the country’s national domestic card initiative introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria in partnership with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System to deepen financial inclusion, lower transaction costs and enhance efficiency within the payment ecosystem.

The company explained that the new rollout also broadens distribution channels for the card scheme, as users can either complete requests within the app or visit PalmPay’s physical customer experience centres, as well as engage any of its more than 500,000 nationwide agents for assistance.

Commenting on the development, Managing Director of AfriGO, Ebehijie Momoh, said the collaboration supports the scheme’s long-term goal of building a payment infrastructure tailored to domestic realities, noting that expanding access points helps remove participation barriers and promotes inclusion.

He stated that making the cards accessible through the app would enable more Nigerians to participate fully in the evolving digital economy.

Also speaking, Managing Director of PalmPay, Chika Nwosu, said many citizens still encounter challenges obtaining reliable card services, adding that enabling in-app requests simplifies banking access while giving users greater confidence to transact seamlessly across the nation’s payment landscape.
