Pampers, Huggies, and Molfix, which is the best diaper brand for babies

by Radarr Africa

Like every other product in the market, there are so many diaper brands from which a nursing mother can choose from depending on what her child’s needs and personal preferences are.

Nursing mothers and new mothers who constitute the target market for diapers as a product face numerous challenges while raising their kids and this ranges from inconsolable crying, breastfeeding problems, skin problems, sleeping problems, formula feeding problems, etc.

In some cases, most of these problems are usually beyond the mother’s control and this can be due to factors such as lack of communication from the baby’s end. A good number of these issues can also be managed by choosing the right product which goes a long way in improving wellbeing and providing the comfort your baby needs.

For the purpose of this article, we would be discussing three (3) diaper brands trusted by new moms and nursing mothers which are Pampers, Mofix, and Huggies. Note that this review does not rule out other diaper brands like Dr. Brown’s Baby Diaper, Drylove baby diapers, Pull-Ups or Fisher-price diapers which are also diaper brand choices for Mothers around the world.

Pampers diaper

Pampers is one of the leading diaper brands in the world and it is marketed by Procter & Gamble. The brand only offers diapers for babies and toddlers. It is also the first brand to market and produce diapers in Nigeria. It entered the market in 2000 and since then has continued to be the mother’s favourite.

The brand over the years has garnered so much trust in the market and is a great way to start with diapers for a newborn. The popularity of Pampers also reflects on other diaper brands as most people also use it as a general term and equally referring to other diaper brands as pampers.

Pampers is specially designed to help maintain healthy skin with skin-protecting lotion and has a soft outer cover made with materials used in hospital garments to deliver softness and breathability. Another unique feature of pampers is the absorbent core which helps absorb wetness so the baby’s skin can stay dry. Pampers is available for newborn (0-3 months), Baby (3-12 months), and Toddler (12+ months).

Molfix

Molfix is another reputable brand produced by Hayat Kimya. Pampers used to have most of the market shares in the diapers industry until molfix came along in 1998 and launched into the Nigerian market in 2015.

Molfix diaper is specially designed with an umbilical cord notch that seats below babies’ umbilical cord allowing it to be aerated and heal properly. It also has an extra absorbent green layer, soaking up all your baby’s pee. Other features of the Molfix diaper are a breathable back sheet allowing free flow of air and preventing diaper rash, super elastic sidebands giving babies freedom of movement and a soft sheet that is friendly to the baby’s skin.

Huggies

Huggies is another leading diaper brand in the market. Huggies is manufactured by Kimberly- Clerk, an American multinational care brand. The Huggies diaper is designed with a breathable outer cover that protects the baby and allows air to circulate helping to keep the baby’s skin dry.

Other features are an Umbilical cord cutout which leaves the umbilical cord uncovered to promote faster healing, a wetness indicator that lets mothers know when to change the diapers, and an absorbent core that draws urine and poops away from the baby’s skin, waistband, and stretched ears. Huggies diaper is fragrance and paraben free.

The three brands with careful examination have similar features, how then do we determine which is best for babies?

To arrive at an answer we carried out a survey among 100 mothers using the must-have qualities of the baby diaper as guidelines; Skin friendliness, Perfect fitting, Absorbing power and Value for money.

When asked which diaper product is most friendly to the baby’s skin?

63.6% went for Molfix, 31.8% chose Huggies and 4.6% went for pampers.

When asked which diaper product fits best on the baby?

13.6% went for pampers, 27.3% chose Huggies and 59.1% of our population went for Molfix.

We went further to ask our population which brand they find more absorbent.

9.1% went for pampers, 27.3% went for Huggies and 63.6% prefer Molfix

Lastly, we asked mothers which brand gives them value for their money.

61.9% went for Molfix, 28.6% preferred Huggies and 9.5% chose pampers.

Although consumer choice from the above results were influenced by various factors ranging from cost  to need and preference, it is quite clear that a major percentage of mothers preferred the Molfix brand to Pampers and Huggies. Molfix may be the most preferred brand according to the above survey but there are also other brands which you can try out as the goal is to find a product that improves the wellbeing and comfort of your child.

Personally, I use Pampers diapers for my children, a choice which I’m starting to believe may be a result of a combination of consistent advertising and availability in local stores around me.

While on the search to find what diaper is right for your baby at every stage of development, it is important to consider factors such as; Good absorbency, Wetness indicator lines, Stretchability and fitness, Softness and breathability.

Hopefully the above insights provided would help in picking the right diaper from the many available brands for your baby when next you visit the stores. In the meantime, you can tell us which diaper you currently use for your kids and why.
