The Rotary Club of Ikate, Lagos State District 9112, has installed Rotarian Chidozie Ofoegbu as its 39th president with a mandate to expand both digital and humanitarian projects within the community. The investiture ceremony, which took place on Sunday, gathered club members, community leaders, and supporters who pledged their commitment to the new leadership.

During the event, President Rotarian Ofoegbu unveiled a seven-point agenda for the 2025/2026 Rotary year. The agenda is focused on technology, education, health, and community empowerment, with the aim of addressing the needs of the people in Ikate and surrounding areas. Among the highlighted projects is the establishment of a digital literacy centre to equip secondary school students with essential computer skills. The plan also includes the installation of solar-powered workstations at Aguda Grammar School, which will help ensure access to learning tools without the challenge of unreliable electricity supply.

Another important project in the agenda is the training of 20 young people in 3D animation, a move aimed at creating opportunities in digital creativity and opening new career paths in technology. The club will also embark on refurbishing boreholes at Adegoke Primary School to ensure access to clean water, while students will benefit from sanitation materials and deodorants distribution to encourage hygiene practices. In addition, the club pledged to sponsor young people to the Rotary Leadership Academy, where they will gain leadership and community service training. To support health and well-being, the Rotary Club of Ikate also plans to conduct free diabetes screenings and refurbish school sickbays.

At the ceremony, the keynote lecture was delivered by the Director of Creativity and Innovations at Globacom, Chuka Obi. He emphasized that humanitarian service is the greatest form of innovation. Obi explained that community well-being is at the heart of security and development, stressing that technology should serve society by improving lives. He commended Chidozie Ofoegbu for his years of service and commitment to using technology for humanitarian purposes.

The ceremony also featured goodwill messages and pledges of support for the projects ahead. The Chairman of the Day, Ferdinand Okechukwu, announced a personal pledge of two million naira to support the initiatives. He called on other members of the community to join in supporting the club’s projects for the year. The Investiture Chairman, Rotarian Dominic Chukwuemeka, praised Ofoegbu’s expertise in technology, describing him as the “AI President” for his strong passion for digital solutions.

Ofoegbu, in his remarks, assured members of the club and the community that he is committed to delivering meaningful projects that will impact lives. He said his leadership will focus on integrating technology with social service, in line with Rotary’s mission of service above self. “We are here to serve, and we will ensure that through technology and humanitarian efforts, lives in Ikate and beyond will be touched,” he said.

The Rotary Club of Ikate has a long history of community service, and over the years, it has carried out projects in education, health, and empowerment. With Ofoegbu’s agenda, the club is expected to continue this legacy while bringing innovation into its programmes. Observers believe that the focus on digital literacy, solar energy, and creative training will prepare young people in the community for the future of work while also addressing immediate needs such as clean water, healthcare, and hygiene.

The event also served as a reminder of the importance of collaboration between civic groups, private individuals, and corporate organisations in community development. With financial support from members and friends of Rotary, projects like those unveiled by Ofoegbu are expected to be completed within the Rotary year.

As District 9112 continues to expand its reach in Lagos State, the Ikate club under Ofoegbu’s leadership is positioning itself as a model of how Rotary can combine humanitarian service with technology-driven solutions. The new president expressed hope that the projects would not only solve problems but also inspire more youths to embrace service and leadership.

With a clear agenda, strong community support, and growing recognition of the role of technology in development, the Rotary Club of Ikate is set for another impactful year of service under the leadership of President Rotarian Chidozie Ofoegbu.
