Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been honoured by the Bodex Social Media Hangout (BSMH) for his remarkable contributions to digital engagement, technology-driven governance, and media innovation in Nigeria’s commercial hub.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the organisers of the Bodex Social Media Hangout confirmed that the governor was officially conferred as the Grand Patron of the Bodex Social Media Hangout Initiative. The announcement comes ahead of the sixth edition of the annual event, themed “Social Media and AI Influence: Transforming Yourself, Services, and the Society.”

The BSMH team, led by its Convener, Ms. Bodex Hungbo, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, to present the recognition and discuss plans for the upcoming edition.

During the visit, Hungbo commended the governor’s unwavering support for media innovation, digital transformation, and youth empowerment programmes. She noted that under his leadership, Lagos State has become a beacon of digital governance and a model for inclusive communication between government and citizens.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s digital-forward policies and his open engagement style have positioned Lagos as a leading example of how governments can use social media and technology to drive inclusion and transparency,” Hungbo said.

She further explained that the recognition was part of efforts to appreciate leaders who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to using technology to improve governance, communication, and societal development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his response, expressed gratitude to the Bodex Social Media Hangout team for the recognition. He praised the initiative for promoting responsible social media use and encouraging constructive online engagement among Nigerians.

He emphasised that his administration remains committed to supporting programmes that promote digital literacy, youth empowerment, and creative innovation in Lagos. According to him, the state’s ongoing investment in digital infrastructure and youth development initiatives is part of a broader vision to make Lagos Africa’s digital innovation capital.

“We understand the power of digital platforms in shaping modern governance and public service delivery,” the governor said. “Social media has become an essential tool for communication and citizen engagement, and we must continue to use it responsibly to build a better society.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu is also expected to deliver the keynote address at the Grand Finale of the Bodex Social Media Hangout 6.0. During the event, he will receive the “Most Digital Media Friendly Governor of the Year” award for his visionary leadership and consistent efforts in using technology to promote transparency, accountability, and public participation in governance.

The Bodex Social Media Hangout, which began six years ago, has grown into a major convergence point for media practitioners, influencers, policymakers, and social media enthusiasts across Nigeria. The event provides a platform to discuss current trends in digital communication, responsible social media practices, and the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on everyday life.

Since its inception, the Hangout has focused on encouraging responsible online behaviour, combating misinformation, and empowering individuals and organisations to use social media for social good.

Organisers said this year’s edition will bring together experts from technology, media, government, and academia to explore how AI and digital innovation can transform service delivery and human capacity development.

As Lagos continues to lead Nigeria’s digital revolution through projects like the Smart City Initiative and Eko Digital Academy, the recognition of Governor Sanwo-Olu by BSMH underscores his administration’s achievements in promoting technology-driven governance, youth participation, and public engagement.

The event will also highlight the vital role of digital inclusion and responsible media use in building a sustainable society, reinforcing Lagos State’s position as a hub for innovation, creativity, and technological advancement in Africa.
