UBA Named Nigeria’s Strongest Brand in 2024, Ranks Among World’s Top 15 Banking Brands

by Radarr Africa

United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has claimed the top spot as Nigeria’s strongest brand in the 2024 Brand Finance ranking, making a significant leap from its 9th position in 2023. The international recognition also sees UBA placed as the 13th strongest banking brand globally, among 500 banking brands evaluated by Brand Finance, a leading global brand valuation consultancy.

According to the latest report, UBA earned a brand strength index score of 92.4 out of 100, which qualifies it for a AAA+ rating — the highest score achieved by any Nigerian brand in this year’s assessment. The evaluation considers factors such as brand familiarity, customer preference, loyalty, and performance across different markets.

The bank’s rise in the rankings is being credited to its strong brand equity in its home market, and the strategic measures it has taken to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. UBA’s influence continues to grow not only in Nigeria but across 20 African countries, and globally through its operations in the UK, U.S., France, and the UAE.

Speaking on the achievement, Alero Ladipo, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at UBA, said the recognition was a reflection of the bank’s consistent efforts to put customers first. “This year’s ranking is no coincidence; it is the result of deliberate planning, strategic investments, and an unwavering focus on customer satisfaction,” she said. “We remain steadfast in our mission to adapt to the evolving landscape, ensuring we consistently deliver exceptional value and keep our customers delighted.”

She added that UBA’s progress reflects the bank’s long-term vision of building a future-ready, customer-centric financial institution with a commitment to innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.

Brand Finance’s methodology combines financial performance metrics with consumer perception research, providing a comprehensive view of a brand’s strength and future potential. UBA’s inclusion in the top 15 banking brands globally is a significant milestone for a Nigerian and African financial institution.

This recognition also reinforces UBA’s position as a key player in Africa’s banking sector. The bank is known for pioneering digital innovations and financial inclusion initiatives aimed at underserved communities and small businesses. Just recently, UBA launched a bespoke financial solution for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) called the UBA SME Card, designed to streamline transactions and give small business owners better access to banking services.

Industry experts say UBA’s ability to maintain strong performance in a challenging economic climate, while also expanding across borders, demonstrates its resilience and strategic strength. The recognition from Brand Finance is expected to boost investor confidence and strengthen the bank’s profile on the global stage.

UBA continues to deliver a broad range of services, from retail and commercial banking to corporate and institutional solutions, positioning itself as a bridge between African businesses and global markets.

As competition in the banking industry intensifies, UBA’s continued emphasis on customer engagement, digital transformation, and brand loyalty appears to be paying off, setting it apart as not only a financial institution but a respected brand name in Africa and beyond.
