The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has announced Mrs. Ezeoma Ezeibe as its new president, making her the third female to hold the position in the Council’s 63-year history.
According to a statement released by the NCRIB on Saturday, Ezeibe will be officially sworn in as president on October 24, 2025, in Lagos. The Council described her as a seasoned insurance lawyer and broker whose integrity, expertise, and long-standing industry contributions have earned her wide recognition and respect.
Ezeibe has served in several leadership capacities within the NCRIB, including as Vice President and Deputy President, before her current elevation. The statement read in part: “Her rich knowledge of insurance law, integrity, and solid social capital will further solidify the Council’s position at the forefront of Nigerian professions. She brings a wealth of experience and industry-wide acceptance to the role.”
Born into a royal family, Ezeibe attended Holy Rosary Secondary School, Umuahia, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel College, Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State, where she obtained her West African School Certificate. She later earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the old Imo State University, now Abia State University, about 39 years ago, and was called to the Nigerian Bar 38 years ago after completing her studies at the Nigerian Law School. She later obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Lagos.
Her professional journey into the insurance sector began during her National Youth Service Corps year at the Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation (Nigeria Re) in 1987/1988, where she worked under the tutelage of the late Professor Joe Irukwu, SAN. She was retained after her service year, marking the start of a distinguished career in insurance law and management.
In 1991, she joined Liberty Assurance Company Limited as Company Secretary, Legal Adviser, and Head of Claims Department, before moving to Industrial & General Insurance Company Limited (IGI) in 1992 as its pioneering Company Secretary and Legal Adviser. Later, she co-founded Crystal Trust Insurance Brokers Limited, where she currently serves as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.
A dedicated professional, Ezeibe holds multiple industry certifications. She is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (London) with distinctions in Claims Practice and Strategic Risk Management, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Council of Registered Insurance Brokers.
Her contributions extend beyond Nigeria. She has delivered over 40 pro bono lectures across various platforms, including the NCRIB, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria, and the African Insurance Brokers Association. For the past 14 years, she has lectured on Marine Insurance at the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, where she earned awards for excellence.
Ezeibe played a significant role in the development of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act, 2025, advocating for stronger governance, compliance, and innovation in the sector.
Within the NCRIB, she has served as Honorary Treasurer (2017–2019), Vice President (2021–2023), and Deputy President (2023–2025). Her influence also cuts across key professional bodies, including the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Nigerian Insurers Association, and the Professional Insurance Ladies Association.
At the continental level, she has been an active leader within the African Insurance Brokers’ Association, serving as Secretary (2022–2024), Treasurer (2024–2025), and now Vice Chair—the first woman to hold that position. She also contributed to establishing the Africa Insurance Women Association, where she helped formalise its constitution and officiated at the inauguration of its first president in 2023.
Beyond Africa, she sits on the Insurance Committee of the International Chamber of Shipping, based in London, UK, reflecting her growing global influence in insurance regulation and marine risk management.
Ezeibe’s emergence as NCRIB President is seen as a major milestone for women in the Nigerian insurance industry, underscoring her decades of service, leadership, and advocacy for professional excellence.
