Cross Switch has announced the appointment of Gillian Koinange as its Head of Business Development for East Africa, in a move aimed at deepening its presence across the region’s fast-evolving payments landscape.
The company disclosed that Koinange brings over two decades of experience spanning revenue growth, strategic partnerships, and market expansion across Africa, with expertise cutting across IT, telecommunications, fintech, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). She is widely regarded for her capacity to scale pan-African portfolios, lead high-performing teams, and deliver strong commercial outcomes in complex operating environments.
In her new role, she is expected to spearhead Cross Switch’s regional expansion strategy, strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, and drive broader adoption of its payment solutions across East Africa.
Prior to her appointment, Koinange held senior roles where she led new sales initiatives across the continent and managed strategic global client portfolios, most recently at PayU in Nairobi. Industry observers note that her track record in negotiating high-value contracts and fostering long-term partnerships positions her well to advance Cross Switch’s growth ambitions.
She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a Kellogg-certified sales specialist. Koinange is also recognised for her client-focused approach, deep understanding of regional markets, and commitment to innovation within the fintech ecosystem.
Commenting on her approach to business development, she described her expertise as “a potent mix of strategic planning, partnership development, and an uncanny ability to see opportunities where others see obstacles.”
Her appointment, analysts say, underscores Cross Switch’s commitment to strengthening its leadership bench as it seeks to enhance service delivery standards and drive innovation across Africa’s digital payments sector.
