China deepens its involvement in Ethiopia, Kazakhstan

China has invested heavily in Ethiopia and Kazakhstan, not just in infrastructure projects, but beyond. Beijing’s defensive ties with Ethiopia and the recent involvement of hackers in the country signal that the impact on nations will worsen in the near future.

Beijing’s state-owned companies have built over 190 government buildings in Africa. And it also includes 14 sensitive domestic telecommunications networks as part of the Sino-African Artificial Intelligence (AI) mission. The mission is awarded to Huawei and ZTE for network setup and equipment procedures, the Times of Israel reported on Friday.

Many global leaders have accused Huawei of being a front company of the communist regime. Even some Western and European countries have banned Huawei for allegedly illegal surveillance activities.

It is believed that China-based companies are conducting sensitive nature projects in other countries, creating loopholes in the system that can later be exploited by Beijing-sponsored hackers.

Chinese hackers have repeatedly transmitted data servers from the headquarters of the African Union in Ethiopia and video footage from surveillance cameras to the communist regime. These hackers were also involved in data theft in Ethiopia and disclosed sensitive information to China during peak working hours (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), The Times of Israel reported.

As many as 2.5 million Chinese travels to Ethiopia every year in the name of tourism. In addition to tourism, however, these nationals are trying to strengthen their business interests and conquer their stronghold in the country.

Ethiopia has also signed China’s famous Belt and Road Initiative, but the country is unaware that with the signing of the agreement, the fate of Ethiopia is now in the hands of the Chinese. The communist regime has usually exploited the natural resources of other countries. Beijing is building heavy infrastructures in other countries through its immense loans that cannot be easily repaid to take indirect control of these nations.

In addition to participating in infrastructure projects in other countries, the communist regime also maintains defence relationships with nations of strategic interest.

Beijing has long been selling heavy weapons to Ethiopia. It includes weapons and ammunition, including artillery, light armoured vehicles, missiles, long-range missiles, and troop transport vehicles. The communist regime has also trained an unknown number of Ethiopian officers.

China’s South Asian all-weather ally Pakistan is also trying to sell substandard equipment to African countries.

The communist regime was also involved in espionage activities through joint satellite launches. Officially, such exercises are supposed to be part of understanding weather patterns, drought and mining, but in reality, they are used twice in military affairs, The Times of Israel reported.

The US Congress members are investigating beneficiaries of Beijing’s investments in Ethiopia, but have now turned to Kazakhstan. There is a reputable clan that is subject to extensive investigations that can lead to sanctions. The clan is led by Timur Kulibaev. He is a member of the board of directors of Gazprom and is considered the preferred route of the communist regime to Kazakhstan.

Timur had worked with some members of the government to postpone or even cancel Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to India despite an increase in trade between the two countries, according to the Times of Israel.
