Eskom will implement varying stages of load-shedding during the rest of the week, with a gradual reduction in power cuts anticipated over the weekend.
The utility said persistent high levels of generating unit breakdowns and nearly depleted emergency generation reserves have led to continued capacity shortages.
That is despite Eskom teams returning generating units to service at the Duvha, Kendal and Medupi power stations since Tuesday morning.
As of 05:30 on Thursday morning, Eskom had 16,585MW of capacity unavailable due to breakdowns and another 5,683MW out on planned maintenance.
Therefore, Eskom will continue its current rotation of stage 3 and stage 4 load-shedding before reducing load-shedding to stage 2 from Friday morning.
“Stage 3 load-shedding is currently underway until 16:00 on Thursday, thereafter, it will increase to stage 4 until 05:00 on Friday morning,” Eskom said.
“Load-shedding will be lowered to stage 2 between 05:00 and 16:00 on Friday.”
Eskom added that it anticipated stages 1 and 2 would be required during the weekend.
Under its current forecast, Sunday will have no load-shedding between 05:00 and 16:00, before stage 2 resumes during the evening.
Eskom said it would publish a further update to the schedule as soon as any significant changes occurred.
The table below summarize the load-shedding schedule for the rest of the week.
