Etisalat launches SA 5G in the UAE

Etisalat launched standalone (SA) 5G in the United Arab Emirates, claiming this to be the first SA 5G in the Middle East and North Africa.

In a statement, the e&-owned operator said SA 5G delivers additional capacity and lower latency which enables various applications.

The operator detailed applications such as massive machine-to-machine communication solutions, real-time device-to-device networking, ultra-reliable, low-latency functionality for autonomous devices and next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Commercial customers will be able to tap into high-speed connectivity which enables 4K streaming, cloud gaming and high-quality audio streaming. Etisalat pitched its SA 5G fixed wireless access service as an alternative to fixed broadband to businesses.

Etisalat launched its non-standalone 5G network in 2018.

Etisalat by e& chief technology and information officer Khalid Murshed said: “We are pleased to announce our successful investment in 5G Standalone technology. This is a significant milestone as we look to deliver end-to-end 5G solutions in UAE, providing our customers with the latest digital innovations and superior experience and laying the foundation for new revenue streams
