Nigeria’s active mobile subscriptions climbed to 195,108,814 in July 2026, with teledensity now at 90 percent, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
MTN Makes History

MTN became the first operator to cross the 100-million-subscriber mark since GSM services launched in Nigeria in 2001, closing July with 100,859,587 subscribers and a 51.76 percent market share.
Airtel followed with 66,760,297 subscribers (34.26 percent), Globacom recorded 23,628,966 (12.13 percent), while T2 had 3,613,811 (1.85 percent).
The industry added nearly three million new connections in a single month, up from 192,232,120 total subscribers in June.
Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) chairman Gbenga Adebayo credited the growth to stable regulatory policy from the NCC.
