Gbenga Daniel Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

by Radarr Africa

Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) and return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Daniel, who represents Ogun East Senatorial District, described the claims as false and insisted that he remains committed to the APC. His clarification comes days after he and another party chieftain, Mr. Kunle Folarin, were suspended by the Ogun State chapter of the APC over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension had sparked speculation that Daniel, who was once a governor under the PDP, could be plotting a political comeback to the opposition party. However, in a statement released on Monday by the OGD Media Office, Daniel reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC.

The statement reads: “For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Gbenga Daniel is and remains a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, a Senator and remains on the platform of the APC.”

The senator’s denial is aimed at putting an end to the rumours that followed his suspension from the ruling party. Political observers say the development highlights the tension within the Ogun APC ahead of future elections.

Daniel, who governed Ogun State from 2003 to 2011 under the PDP before joining the APC, has continued to play a key role in Ogun politics. His political journey has often attracted speculation about his next moves, especially during moments of intra-party disagreements.

The PDP has yet to make any official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, APC leaders in Ogun State are expected to deliberate further on the suspension and other disciplinary issues in the party.

For now, Daniel has made it clear that he remains with the APC and intends to continue his legislative duties under the ruling party.
