NSE Daily Equity Turnover Drops 57% to KSh 515.6m

The Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) recorded a significant decline in daily equity turnover on the first day of this trading week to KSh 515.6m compared to KSh 1.2 billion when trading ended at the bourse on Friday last week, a 57% drop.

This is as the Manufacturing and Allied sector dominated trading at the NSE. This sector had shares valued at KSh 315m traded, representing 61.07% of the day’s traded value.

E.A Breweries was the day’s main feature, with 2.85m shares valued at KSh314m changing hands between KSh 110.00 and KSh 115.00.

Safaricom moved 4.58m shares worth KSh106m between KSh23.00 and KSh24.00; this represented 20.54% of the day’s traded value.

The top gainer according to today’s data  was Sameer, whose share price increased by 9.02% from KSh 3.99 to KSh 4.35, while the worst performer was Umeme, whose share price fell 10% from KSh 8.00 to KSh 7.20.

The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh 88m transacted, which accounted for 17.10% of the day’s traded value.

Equity Group Holdings actively moved 1.8m shares valued at KSh70.5m between KSh38.90 and KSh39.90. Standard Chartered Bank moved 82,000 shares valued at KSh10m and closed at KSh124.50. Co-operative Bank remained steady at KSh10.80 with shares worth KSh3m transacted.

Market Capitalization fell to KSh 1,820,590.00 billion this Monday compared to KSh 1,825,823.00 billion at the close of last week’s last trading day.

The number of equity deals increased to 1,191 compared to 1,403 at the end of the prior trading session.

The number of shares traded declined to 13,008,300 this Monday compared to 44,777,900 shares changing hands at the end of the previous trading session.

NSE INDICES ALL DROP AS TRADING ENDS THIS WEEK

The NSE All-Share Index(NASI) was down 0.33 points to close at 116.88, while the NSE 20 Share Index declined by 9.64 points to stand at 1563.68. The NSE 25 Share Index also lost 14.83 points to end the day at 2752.62.

The Derivatives Market segment at the NSE had six contracts valued at KSh140,000 transacted in today’s trading session.

The Safaricom Single Stock Futures contract expiring on 15th June 2023 traded four contracts valued at KSh104,000 at a price of KSh26.05. This is against a closing price of KSh 23.15 posted by Safaricom in the spot market.

The Secondary Bonds market had bonds worth KSh 1.689billion transacted.
