Moroccan, Dutch Partnership in Agadir to Unveils Horticultural Center

Various officials have gathered in Agadir to inaugurate a new horticultural “center of excellence” due to a partnership between Morocco and the Netherlands.

Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests Mohamed Sadiki was joined by Dutch Ambassador Jeroen Roodenburg to celebrate the new center’s opening on Saturday, December 10.

In a press release, the Dutch embassy in Rabat highlighted the “very close cooperation,” between the two kingdoms that had led to the opening of the new center in Agadir. The ceremony marks the official start of the center’s activities, which will focus on knowledge exchange to promote the “sustainable and integrated development of the horticultural sector in Morocco.”

The new center of excellence brings together the Dutch embassy, the ministry of agriculture, and actors from the private sector and Dutch research institutions. They are set to work closely with the Moroccan ministry of agriculture, the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute in Rabat, and the Agadir Horticultural Complex.

The Dutch embassy emphasized that the new center and its projects “offer great opportunities to exchange the experiences of the two countries and to strengthen the synergies and complementarities between the production sectors in Morocco and the Netherlands.”

Horticulture, the science of plant cultivation, is at an advanced stage in the Netherlands. Despite its small size (41,543 km²) relative to Morocco (710,850 km²), the north-western European country is the world’s second-largest agricultural exporter, driven by innovation and high-tech agriculture.

Kenya and Netherlands Sign MoU To increase Trade and investment Between The Two Countries

The Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) and the Netherland Business Hub (NLBH) have agreed to reinforce their collaboration towards increasing trade and investment between Kenya and the Netherlands.

This has resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries at a meeting held on Friday at KenInvest offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

The purpose of the MOU is to support further the efforts of the Netherlands companies to invest in Kenya, in certain areas such as blue economy, agriculture, logistics, energy and water, life sciences and health and many others.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, KenInvest Ag. Managing Director, Olivia Rachier said, “I am proud to sign this MOU with NLBH to promote further collaboration in areas of trade and investment following the work the two agencies have already been doing together. This MOU serves as a strong impetus for cooperation between the two countries.”

Netherlands Business Hub Chairperson Carlo Van Wageningen said that over the past decade, the Netherlands has been consistently among the top five export markets for Kenya.

“Kenya is the Netherlands’ most important trade partner in Eastern Africa with the trade balance in favor of Kenya,” said Wageningen.

He further highlighted that MOU offers a framework for fruitful collaboration between KenInvest and the NLBH in promoting and facilitating investments in Kenya to Netherlands companies, conducting joint investments promotion and trade missions and supporting a conducive investment environment.

Wageningen noted that the signing of the MOU affirms that the economic ties between Kenya and Netherlands are as strong as ever since the MOU embraces the initiative from KenInvest and NLBH.

NLBH General Manager Yvonne Oerlemans noted that the hub provides support, information and services to Dutch entrepreneurship in Kenya, promotes bilateral trade between the two countries and opens up a strong network for locals in partnership with the Netherland embassy.

“The Netherland Business Hub promotes and supports Dutch business in Kenya. With the signing of this MOU, the route to setting up and doing business in Kenya becomes easier for Dutch businesses, prompting Dutch investment in the country and contributing to economic growth in Kenya. As a chamber of commerce, we are proud to be in partnership with KenInvest,” said Oerlemans.

NLBH offers Dutch companies support in entering and doing business in the Kenyan market, it promotes bilateral trade between the two countries and opens up a strong business and social network.
