Tetracore, Huawei plan natural gas-powered data center in Nigeria

West African energy company Tetracore Energy Group has announced plans to develop a $400 million data center in Nigeria in partnership with Huawei and Inspirive Technologies.

The planned 20MW facility will be built at the company’s energy park in Atakobo, Orgun State, southwestern Nigeria, and is designed to meet Tier III standards. Construction is expected to take between 10 and 12 months.

According to the companies, the project reflects growing domestic demand in the Nigerian market, driven by demand for local data storage and processing capacity across enterprises and public-sector organizations.

Tetracore said the data center will be powered by a 100MW on-site independent power plant located within the energy park. The park is a gas-powered energy facility with a capacity of 6.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d).

“Sustainable digital transformation is fundamentally dependent on reliable energy infrastructure. This project reflects our ability to integrate energy and technology at scale, creating platforms that enable long-term economic growth. The Tetracore Energy Park was deliberately designed to support projects of this magnitude, and this development reinforces our commitment to execution in complex environments,” said Olakunle Williams, president and CEO of Tetracore Energy Group.

The facility is expected to serve a range of sectors, including finance, telecommunications, government, and technology, as well as startups and education platforms.

“This development marks a major milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s digital backbone. By combining local expertise with global technology partnerships, we are delivering a scalable, world-class data center capable of supporting enterprise growth, cloud adoption, and long-term digital transformation,” said Williams Abiola, CTO of Inspirive Technologies.

A representative from Huawei Nigeria added: “Huawei is proud to contribute its global expertise in data centre technologies to this project. Together, we are delivering a high-performance, energy-efficient facility aligned with international standards, supporting Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.”

Nigeria is one of Africa’s fastest-growing data center markets. According to Data Center Map, the country has around 25 facilities operated by 15 companies. Colo provider Equinix is one of the biggest names in the market. In November of last year, the firm announced plans for a $22m data center in the capital Lagos.

Tetracore is an integrated energy company active across Nigeria and Ghana. The company focuses on gas processing, power generation, and compressed natural gas production. The data center development will be its first.
