Global open-source leader, Red Hat, has announced an expanded collaboration with Google Cloud aimed at helping enterprises accelerate application modernization and simplify their migration to the cloud.
The strengthened partnership introduces Red Hat OpenShift directly within the Google Cloud console, deepening integrations across Google Cloud services. It also marks the general availability of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation on Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated on Google Cloud—an important step for organisations looking to run both virtual machines (VMs) and containerised workloads on a unified platform.
Mike Barrett, Vice President and General Manager, Hybrid Cloud Platforms at Red Hat, underscored the significance of the collaboration:
“Red Hat’s hybrid cloud vision is built on consistency—the ability to run any workload, anywhere, with the same operational model. This extended collaboration with Google Cloud further empowers organizations with the comprehensive cloud-native capabilities of Red Hat OpenShift… Together, Red Hat and Google provide a clear, unified path for organizations to modernise their entire application portfolio.”
A push toward simpler, scalable cloud adoption
The announcement reflects both companies’ commitment to providing an integrated platform where enterprises can build, deploy, manage, and scale containerised, virtualised, and AI-driven applications with confidence on Google Cloud’s infrastructure.
For many organisations, rising operational costs and the complexity of managing mixed environments remain key challenges. Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation addresses these concerns by bridging legacy infrastructure with modern cloud-native technologies. The solution enables businesses to manage VMs, containers, and serverless workloads using a single Kubernetes-based platform—reducing fragmentation and simplifying operations.
With Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated on Google Cloud, enterprises also gain a fully managed application platform. Backed by global site reliability engineers and built-in automation, businesses can focus on scaling innovation rather than infrastructure management.
Accessing the new capabilities
Organisations can now explore OpenShift capabilities directly from the Google Cloud console and adopt Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation at a pace that aligns with their digital transformation needs.
Nirav Mehta, Vice President of Product Management for Google Cloud Compute Platform, highlighted the value for customers:
“Our customers are constantly looking for ways to simplify their infrastructure and accelerate innovation without sacrificing performance. We are pleased to deepen our collaboration with Red Hat for OpenShift on Google Cloud… Customers now have a smoother path to run both virtualised and containerised workloads consistently on Google Cloud’s global, secure, and performant infrastructure.”
The collaboration is expected to significantly boost enterprise efforts to modernise applications and streamline cloud adoption across global markets.
