The Federal Government will commence repair works on the damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Sunday, confirming an earlier notice by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The rehabilitation, initially scheduled to begin in August, was postponed to allow authorities to review the traffic management plan following concerns over the short notice given to motorists.
Two-Week Repair Project
The two-week rehabilitation was ordered by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and will involve replacing deteriorated expansion joints on the bridge.
The Federal Government said the repairs are aimed at improving road safety, strengthening the structural integrity of the bridge and ensuring smoother traffic movement along the busy corridor.
The project is expected to run from September 8 to September 22, 2026.
Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead
The Lagos State Government has urged motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to plan their journeys ahead of the commencement of the repairs.
To reduce the impact of the construction on traffic, authorities said only one half of the affected section will be closed at a time, while motorists will use the remaining half of the road interchangeably.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and consider the expected traffic situation when planning their journeys through the corridor.
