Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged the state government’s support for the completion of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) Lot 18 transmission line along the Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi axis.
Governor Eno made the commitment when he received a delegation from the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, at the Government House in Uyo.
The governor said the state government would intervene to help resolve challenges delaying the completion of the 330kV transmission line.
According to Eno, completing the project would improve electricity supply across Akwa Ibom while supporting the growth of Nigeria’s power sector.
He said the state’s decision to support the project was driven by the need to expand access to reliable electricity and create an environment that would accelerate economic and social development across the state.
NDPHC Seeks State Government’s Intervention
The NDPHC delegation commended Governor Eno for his willingness to support efforts to complete the long-delayed project.
Adighije described the governor’s intervention as an important boost to the state administration’s development efforts and appealed for assistance in resolving outstanding issues affecting the transmission line.
She explained that the project had been delayed partly because of unpaid wayleave compensation owed to communities affected by the construction of the transmission line.
According to Adighije, resolving the compensation issue would allow NDPHC to complete the project and deliver its expected benefits to residents of Akwa Ibom and the wider Nigerian power sector.
She noted that the project was initiated about 20 years ago but had encountered several challenges over the years, particularly those involving compensation and community-related issues.
The proposed intervention by the Akwa Ibom State Government is expected to help address some of these obstacles and move the NIPP Lot 18 transmission project closer to completion
