How to Apply for Mauritius Africa Scholarships 2021/2022

The Mauritius scholarship awards deserving students who are resident citizens of member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries. Winners of the scholarship have the opportunity to study Undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD degree programs at Mauritius Universities.

Details of the Scholarship

15 candidates in each country will be nominated, five candidates in each category of Undergraduate, Masters and MPhil/PhD

Duration: Undergraduate Diploma – 3 years, Undergraduate degrees- 4 years, Master’s degree – 2 years, MPhil/PhD- 4 years and 6 months, and PhD is 3 years.

Eligibility

  • Open to citizens of members states of the Africa Union and Africa Commonwealth countries
  • Undergraduate must be 18 years of age and should not have reached their 26th birthday by the deadline
  • Master’s degree applicant should not have reached 35 years by the closing date
  • PhD applicants should not be less than 40 years by the closing date
  • Applicants should have applied for a full-time programme at the public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius for the academic year of 2021

Requirement

  • Applicants must at least apply for a one-year full-time program at public HEI of their choice
  • Must obtain an offer letter of admission from their chosen Mauritius public HEI and submit it along with the scholarship application
  • Preferably, submit an acknowledge notice from Mauritius public HEI that the application for a seat has been made and evidence of the application fee
  • Application for the postgraduate programme must be accompanied by a study /research plan and for MPhil/PhD
  • All applications are to include a medical report and an AIDS-free certificate before the studentship is approved.
  • Self -financing candidates already studying in Mauritius in an undergraduate programme will not be converted into studentships.
  • The studentship holders would be required to sign an undertaking to return to their home country as soon as the studentship comes to an end.
  • The candidates, once selected, should:
  • Be available to commence their academic studies in Mauritius by the start of the academic year of the respective institution where they have been admitted;
  • Be attending full-time and on-campus (not distance learning) programme;
  • Not receive a full fee studentship from any other source;
  • Be able to pay any outstanding costs not covered by the studentship.

Tuition fees and course-related costs

  • A provision of up to Rs 100,000 (USD 3205 approx.) yearly will be allocated to each beneficiary for this studentship to meet tuition fees and related course costs.
  • Candidates could be allowed to change course or institution taking into consideration their payment capacity beyond the scholarship limit of Rs 100,000 (USD 3205 approx.), provided that the students have not yet embarked on the programme or no funds have been disbursed.

Other Requirement

  • Completed Mauritius scholarship application form
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of bio-data page of the passport
  • copies of educational certificates
  • copies of transcript
  • Copy of letter of conditional offer by a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius
  • Medical certificate to be duly filled and signed by a registered Medical Practitioner
  • Study / Research plan for candidates seeking a Master’s and Doctoral study national Endorsement Form and,
  • Supporting statement for a named supervisor from the University in Mauritius for PhD candidates
