Following the successful introduction of the EQA, EQB, EQC and EQS last year, the EQE will be the fifth Mercedes-EQ model to be launched in South Africa. The EQ variants are slowly growing, bringing an all-new driving experience and a forward-looking form of mobility that is reminiscent of the pioneering achievements dating back 130 years ago.
Compared to the luxury liner EQS, the new addition to the family is even more streamlined with a slightly shorter wheelbase, shorter overhangs and more recessed flanks, carrying the concept of the business saloon into the future. Sensual purity is reflected generously on the surfaces, and reduced joints and a seamless design are also displayed. The overhangs and the front end are kept short, the rear provides the dynamic accent with a sharp rear spoiler. Flush with the outer edge of the body, the 19 to 21-inch wheels, together with a pronounced muscular shoulder section, give the EQE an athletic character.
The local EQE model range initially comprises two variants, the EQE 350+ and the AMG EQE 43 4MATIC. The entry-level EQE 350+ will be powered by a single, rear-mounted electric motor that generates 215 kW of power and 565 N.m of torque allowing it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6,4 seconds. The AMG version on the other hand will receive a front and rear axle battery allowing it to produce a total output of 350 kW of power and 858 N.m of torque. The AMG version will sprint from a dead stop to 100 km/h in just 4,2 seconds. Both models of the EQE have a maximum speed of 210 km/h and driving range of up to 645 km on the base model and 535 km on the AMG model.
More details on the local Mercedes-EQE range will be announced later this month. Later this year, Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa will also introduce the EQE SUV and EQS SUV, bringing the local battery EV model range to a total of seven, the most extensive and varied offered by any manufacturer.
