A former AI researcher has raised fresh concerns about the dangers of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence, warning that some people developing the technology believe it could eventually threaten humanity.
Researcher Quits Over AI Concerns
Jacob Coxon, who said he spent three years conducting pre-training research at OpenAI and Anthropic, resigned from his role amid concerns about the direction of AI development.
Coxon criticised the race to build increasingly powerful AI systems and questioned whether enough safeguards were being put in place.
‘They Could Kill Us All’
The researcher said people involved in developing the technology “earnestly believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
He also accused AI companies of racing towards self-improving systems without adequately addressing the potential consequences.

Coxon described the development of self-improving AI as a dangerous gamble, saying, “They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.”
His warning comes amid growing calls within the technology industry for greater caution around advanced AI systems.
