Security agencies have increased surveillance around schools, NYSC orientation camps, places of worship and other vulnerable locations following intelligence about possible coordinated terrorist attacks.
The Nigeria Police Force issued a nationwide alert warning that terrorists and their local collaborators were conducting reconnaissance of potential targets.
According to the alert, the suspected mobilisation could coincide with the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session.
Security Agencies Step Up Operations
The police said intelligence indicated the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.
Commanders were directed to intensify patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence gathering, access control and rapid response around vulnerable locations.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also said it had strengthened its intelligence network around schools.
NSCDC spokesman Babafemi Afolabi said security operations had already prevented more than 100 attempted attacks on schools.
He urged parents not to keep their children away from school because of the warning but called for cooperation between communities and security agencies.
Parents’ representatives, however, said fears over school safety were genuine and urged the government to strengthen the Safe School Initiative and deploy technology to detect threats around learning institutions.
