The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the December 2025 road crash that injured former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and claimed the lives of two members of his team, has been adjourned to November 17.
Kayode appeared before the magistrate court in Ogun State on Thursday, September 10, as proceedings continued over charges linked to the fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The 46-year-old driver faces several charges, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s license.
Prosecutors allege that Kayode was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the SUV carrying Joshua and his team collided with a stationary truck.
Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, survived the injuries sustained in the December 29 crash and was subsequently discharged from hospital.
However, the accident claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
The group was reportedly travelling to Ogun State to visit Joshua’s father when the crash occurred.
The case initially came before the court in January and has continued through a series of proceedings. Thursday’s hearing was adjourned until November 17 as the legal process continues.
Police had earlier told the court that both vehicles involved in the accident had been removed from the scene before investigators arrived.
The upcoming hearing is expected to provide another step in the legal proceedings surrounding the crash, with Kayode continuing to face the charges brought against him.
