President Bola Tinubu has confirmed the full payment of promised cash rewards to Nigeria’s D’Tigress basketball team following their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title win.
“A Promise Made Must Be a Promise Kept”
Each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received $50,000, completing a package that also included national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja.

“Today, the rewards I promised our D’Tigress have been fully redeemed,” Tinubu said, adding that the delay was due to following required legal processes.
D’Tigress captain Amy Okonkwo thanked the President and First Lady for keeping every promise made after the team’s AfroBasket win.
NBBF president Musa Kida also praised the gesture, dismissing suggestions that a poor recent tournament should overshadow the team’s legacy.
Tinubu said outstanding cash rewards for the Super Falcons are still being finalised.
