The French Football Federation (FFF) has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid to remain FIFA president, citing a breakdown in trust over the leadership of world football.
France Changes Position
FFF president Philippe Diallo announced that the federation’s executive committee unanimously approved the decision, reversing its earlier backing of Infantino.
France had initially supported Infantino when he was the only declared candidate, but Diallo said subsequent developments had changed the situation.
“The trust placed in the FIFA president has been broken,” Diallo said.
He added that “The conditions for our support for his candidacy were no longer there.”
Governance Concerns
The decision follows criticism of Infantino’s proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, which sought to create a commercial structure involving private investors and was eventually abandoned after strong opposition from several football confederations.
Diallo said the proposal raised concerns about FIFA’s decision-making process and governance, particularly because federations were not adequately consulted.
“It is not enough simply to criticise if you want things to move forward. You also have to make proposals,” he said.
France now joins several European football associations that have withdrawn their support for Infantino ahead of the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March 2027.
Meanwhile, NDC national leader Seriake Dickson called for an investigation and prosecution of anyone found responsible for the incident
