Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens continued their strong run at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Tanzania, recording a convincing 94-run victory over Malawi U-19 Women on Match Day 2.
The impressive result came after Nigeria defeated Uganda by four wickets in their opening fixture, giving the Junior Female YellowGreens back-to-back wins in the tournament.
After winning the toss, Malawi chose to bowl first, but Nigeria posted an imposing 152 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.
Malawi struggled in response as Nigeria’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings, eventually dismissing the hosts for just 58 runs in 18.3 overs.
Adekunle Leads Nigeria’s Batting
Shola Adekunle was Nigeria’s leading scorer, making 32 runs from 27 deliveries, including five boundaries.
Omosigho Eguakun maintained her impressive form in the competition with 26 runs from 19 balls, while Beauty Oguai also contributed 26 from 28 deliveries, hitting four boundaries.
Captain Christabel Chukwuonye provided a late boost with an attacking 20 off 12 balls. Her innings included two fours and a six, giving her an impressive strike rate of 166.67.
Inyene Umoh added 17 runs from 14 deliveries, while Jennifer Godwin and Jessica Bieni made useful contributions towards the end of the innings as Nigeria pushed beyond the 150-run mark.
Nigeria Bowlers Complete Comfortable Victory
The strong batting performance gave Nigeria’s bowlers a solid total to defend, and they responded with an excellent display.
Malawi’s wickets fell at regular intervals as the Junior Female YellowGreens maintained pressure and prevented their opponents from building any meaningful partnership.
Nigeria eventually bowled Malawi out for 58 in 18.3 overs, completing a dominant 94-run victory.
The result further strengthens Nigeria’s position in the Africa Qualifier and gives the Junior Female YellowGreens valuable momentum as they continue their pursuit of qualification for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
