Lecturers at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, have embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their full August 2026 salaries.
ASUU Orders Immediate Suspension of Work

The university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced the strike after a congress meeting on Monday, September 7.
Members were directed to stop all academic and administrative activities until the outstanding salaries are paid.
Union Demands Full Payment
ASUU said the action followed its national directive allowing branches to suspend services when salaries remain unpaid beyond the stipulated deadline.
The union described the incomplete salary payment as a recurring issue and urged the university management and relevant authorities to resolve the matter.
The strike is expected to continue until the affected lecturers receive their full August salaries.
