Atlético Madrid have firmly rejected the possibility of Julián Alvarez moving to Barcelona, with the club’s Board of Directors unanimously supporting the decision not to enter transfer negotiations with the Catalan giants.
The Madrid-based club said its board had given “absolute support” to the position after reports emerged of Barcelona’s interest in the Argentine striker.
Atlético explained that it remains open to regular transfer-market discussions when they are handled professionally, ethically and with mutual respect between clubs.
However, the Spanish side accused Barcelona of failing to meet those standards, insisting that there would be no talks regarding Alvarez’s potential transfer.
The club said, “Atletico de Madrid is open to standard transfer market negotiations when conducted in a professional, ethical and respectful manner. We fully stand behind the club’s previously communicated position that FC Barcelona failed to meet these requirements and, as a result, there will not be any negotiation and there is zero consideration of an Alvarez transfer to Barcelona.”
The latest statement strengthens Atlético’s previous stance that Alvarez is not available for a move to Barcelona.
The club also indicated that it expects the 26-year-old forward to respect the decision and remain focused on helping Atlético achieve its ambitions.
“Atletico de Madrid trust that our player will understand the decision and will remain focused on helping the club achieve its goals, just as he has done during the two seasons he has been defending our colors,” the club added.
Alvarez moved to Atlético Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 and has spent the past two seasons with the Spanish club.
Barcelona’s reported interest has therefore been met with a clear response from Atlético, who have ruled out negotiations and shown no willingness to consider selling the Argentine forward to their La Liga rivals.
