Container Truck Rams Broken-Down LAWMA Van in Lagos

by Radarr Africa

A 20-foot container truck has crashed into a broken-down Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) truck at Apakun, inward Iyana-Isolo, Lagos State.

Accident Occurs at Apakun

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a Thursday post on its official X account, accompanied by a video from the scene.

According to the agency, the container truck collided with the LAWMA vehicle after it broke down along the busy route.

LASTMA said its rescue team was immediately deployed, while a crane and high-capacity tow truck were activated to remove the vehicles and ease traffic movement.

The agency stated, “We recorded an overnight accident at Apakun inward Iyana-Isolo, involving a broken-down LAWMA truck and a 20-ft containerised truck which rammed into it.”

Casualty Taken to Hospital

LASTMA added, “The LASTMA Rescue Team is presently at the scene, and the casualty recorded has been taken to the hospital.”

A video released by the agency showed an individual lying on the road at the accident scene.

However, the identity of the person, the extent of the injuries and whether the victim was alive could not be independently confirmed.

LASTMA also did not provide further details about the casualty.

The crash has renewed concerns about the risks posed by heavy-duty vehicles and broken-down trucks on Lagos roads, particularly on busy routes. Authorities have repeatedly advised motorists to properly mark disabled vehicles and remove them from the carriageway as quickly as possible.
