Dangote Refinery IPO Offers Investors long-term value, Devakumar says

by Radarr Africa

Edwin Devakumar, Vice President, Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, has described the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery as an opportunity for investors to participate in one of Africa’s major industrial projects.

Devakumar said the refinery’s growing operations, expanding market share, strong demand prospects and strategic position within Africa’s energy sector could support long-term value creation for shareholders.

He noted that the refinery has begun generating profits and was established to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products, improve energy security, conserve foreign exchange and create employment opportunities.

“The Dangote Refinery is one of the most significant industrial investments ever undertaken on the African continent. It addresses a critical gap in the energy sector while creating substantial economic value. Those investing in the refinery’s ongoing IPO are investing in a business with strong fundamentals, enormous growth potential, and a proven capacity to generate sustainable returns,” Devakumar said.

According to him, the public offering is also designed to widen ownership of the refinery and give investors in Nigeria and other markets an opportunity to participate in its growth.

“The objective is not merely to raise capital. It is to democratise ownership of a strategic national asset and allow millions of Nigerians and global investors to participate in the value being created by the refinery. We believe this is an opportunity for investors to become partners in Africa’s industrial transformation story.”

Devakumar said proceeds from the offering would be directed towards the company’s long-term growth plans, improving operations, expansion projects, working capital needs and strategic investments across the petroleum value chain.

He also pointed to the refinery’s integrated operations, advanced technology, large production capacity, deep-water port and logistics network as factors that could strengthen its competitive position.

“The refinery is strategically positioned to serve domestic, regional, and international markets. Demand for refined petroleum products across Africa continues to grow, and our scale, efficiency, and location provide a unique advantage in capturing these opportunities. This translates directly into long-term value creation for shareholders,” he stated.

REFINERY

The refinery can process different grades of crude oil and produces several petroleum and petrochemical products, including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas and petrochemical feedstocks. Devakumar said the range of products provides the business with multiple sources of revenue.

He added that the company would continue to focus on corporate governance, transparency, financial discipline, environmental responsibility and operational efficiency as it prepares for life as a publicly listed company.

“Investors will benefit from regular financial disclosures, strict governance standards, and a management team focused on driving sustainable growth and profitability,” he said.

Devakumar also expressed confidence that the refinery’s future earnings, expanding export activities and role in Africa’s energy security would continue to attract investor interest.

“This IPO represents more than an investment opportunity; it is an invitation to participate in a historic enterprise that is redefining the African energy landscape. We are confident that investors who subscribe to the offer will be well-positioned to reap bountiful returns as the refinery continues its growth journey and delivers value to shareholders,” he concluded.
