TIME disclosed that the fintech company was chosen for its efforts in recharging retailers after the pandemic slowed travel in Nigeria. Flutterwave is the only African company listed in this year’s line up.

Flutterwave has been named amongst ‘Time’ Magazine’s 100 most influential companies for 2021.

The Nigerian fintech firm, Flutterwave was named a “Pioneer” in TIME’s newly released 100 Most Influential Companies making an extraordinary impact around the world and its efforts in recharging retailers after the pandemic slowed travel in Nigeria. Flutterwave joined global leaders such as Twitter, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Stripe, and Paypal. the firm makes history as the only African company listed in this year’s line up.  

In March Flutterwave became a tech unicorn after it secured $170m Series C funding from global investors valuing the company at over $1 billion. 

In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic enforced lockdown across Africa and shut out shops from the customers. Flutterwave was able to quickly set up a digital stores front for over 20 thousands stores owners ensuring business owners can continue to serve the needs of the populace.

According to Olugbenga Agboola, the CEO of Flutterwave, the firm grew more than 100% in revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic which impacted businesses negatively but not payments companies like Flutterwave.

Companies listed under ‘Pioneers’ include, Rihanna’s SAVAGE X FENTY, Bumble, and Beyond Meat, Hello Sunshine, Strava, Klutch Sports Group, amongst others.

Leaders on the list include Apple, Twitter, Nike Nubank, Mastercard, Volkswagen and the English Premier League, amongst others. Innovators on the list include Stripe, Nintendo, Zoom, Spotify and Netflix to mention a few.

For Titans, the list featured names like Facebook, Amazon, Alibaba, Google, Paypal, Samsung, Microsoft and Tencent to list a few.

TikTok, Hauwei, Clubhouse, AirBnB, SpaceX, Robinhood, and Onlyfans are among the list of Disruptors.
