A 30-year-old victim of a suspected bandit attack in Sokoto State is appealing for help after doctors requested ₦190,000 for scans needed to assess injuries he suffered during the attack.
Victim Struggles to Pay for Treatment
Jamilu Abubakar is receiving treatment at Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto after he was shot in the back while returning from his farm.
Abubakar said he has lost sensation from his chest down to his lower limbs since the incident.
Doctors have requested both an MRI and CT scan to determine the extent of the damage.
He said his family cannot raise the required money.
“The Radiographer said it will cost N190,000, but we don’t have the money,” he said.
Father Depends on Begging
Abubakar said his father is physically challenged and survives by begging to provide food for the family.
The financial situation has made it difficult for the family to fund his medical care.
“I cannot feel anything from my chest down to my lower limbs,” Abubakar said.
He appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to assist with the cost of his treatment.
Sokoto Attack Leaves Five Dead
The attack occurred in Girkau community, Kebbe Local Government Area, where suspected bandits attacked residents.
Five people have now been confirmed dead, while several others sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, residents said recent military operations in the area have restored some confidence after troops recovered weapons, ammunition and motorcycles from suspected criminals.
They urged security forces to maintain their presence in the area to prevent the attackers from regrouping.
