Tinubu Returns to Lagos, Says He Is Ready to Work
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Lagos after spending about a month abroad on what was described as a working vacation.
The President arrived at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Ikeja on Tuesday night, where he addressed journalists and supporters who had gathered to welcome him.
Responding to questions about his health following speculation that he had been hospitalised in France, Tinubu dismissed the reports and said he was in good health.
“rumours will always be part of politics”, he said, adding, “But the fact is, I am here, healthy, sound and ready to work.”
Asked about his assessment of the vacation, the President simply said, “I enjoyed myself”.
Speaking further about the reports concerning his health, Tinubu said, “Well, rumours will always emanate from politics, but the fact is I am here, hale, hearty, sound, ready to kick, ready to work”.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for a vacation that was initially expected to last three weeks. The trip was later extended by several days before his return to the country.
During his time abroad, the President continued official engagements, including meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bollore.
He also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the proposed development of a $7 billion deep-sea port.
The presidency had maintained that Tinubu was on a working vacation and continued to oversee government affairs while abroad.
His return to Lagos comes ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations on October 1.
