Zamfara State Government and the United Nations have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and advancing sustainable development initiatives across the state.
The commitment was made during a high-level strategic engagement on the Zamfara–United Nations Partnership held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the United Nations House in Abuja.
The Zamfara delegation was led by the Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Auta, while the UN delegation was headed by the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Muhammed M. M. Fall, who presided over the engagement on behalf of the Assistant Secretary-General.
Meeting Builds on UN Deputy Secretary-General’s Visit
The engagement followed the April 2026 visit of the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, to Zamfara State.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to explore ways of developing a more strategic, coordinated and sustainable partnership in support of Zamfara’s development priorities.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and identifying opportunities through which the United Nations and the state government can support development efforts and deliver lasting impact for residents.
Zamfara Highlights Strategic Governance
The engagement also highlighted Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration’s commitment to strategic governance and partnerships with development organisations.
The state government said such collaborations remain important to its efforts to address development challenges, strengthen institutions and improve the welfare of citizens.
Officials Attend Strategic Engagement
The Zamfara delegation included the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Professor Yahaya Zakari; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Abdul’aziz Sani, SAN; and the Permanent Secretary, Multilateral and Donor Agencies, Saadatu Abdu Gusau.
Directors and other officials from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies also participated in the engagement.
