EU High Representative Emphasises significance of EU-Morocco partnership

The partnership between Morocco and the European Union has taken on heightened significance in the current geopolitical landscape, emphasized EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell.

At the forefront of discussions was the imperative to bolster this strategic alliance, as highlighted in a recent meeting between Borrell and Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita.

“We explored avenues to invigorate the EU-Morocco partnership, recognizing its pivotal role in today’s complex geopolitical context,” stated the EU senior official on Thursday.

Bourita and Borrell engaged in dialogue encompassing various bilateral and regional matters of importance.

Regarded as a cornerstone of the EU’s neighbourhood policy, the relationship between Rabat and Brussels is underpinned by a robust strategic partnership founded on shared values and aspirations.

On June 27, 2019, in Brussels, Morocco and the EU unveiled the “Euro-Moroccan Partnership for Shared Prosperity,” a comprehensive framework guiding bilateral relations. It delineates four key areas of focus: convergence of values, economic convergence and social cohesion, shared knowledge, and political dialogue alongside enhanced cooperation on security matters. Additionally, the partnership prioritizes collaboration in two crucial horizontal domains: environmental conservation and climate change mitigation, as well as mobility and migration management, with concerted efforts aimed at mutual reinforcement.
