Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned that they will strike new targets and deploy advanced weapons if the United States launches further attacks against the country.
The warning comes nearly seven months into the conflict between Tehran and Washington, with both sides remaining locked in a prolonged standoff despite avoiding a return to full-scale warfare.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the ideological branch of Iran’s military, said any new US attack would trigger significant changes in Iran’s defence and counteroffensive operations.
“There will certainly be significant changes in our defence and our counteroffensive,” the spokesperson said.
“We will introduce new weapons with new capabilities into the battlefield, and the world will be surprised.”
He added that future Iranian strikes could focus on locations that have not previously been targeted.
“Our targets will not necessarily be the same as before either. We have new targets that have not yet been attacked,” he said.
The Guards also stated that they are prepared for a prolonged conflict if tensions continue to escalate.
On Saturday, Iran’s military central command claimed that the United States was planning further action against Tehran, according to state television reports, though no details were provided.
While direct hostilities have eased in recent days following a flare-up late last month, tensions remain high. Iran has continued intermittent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
Both countries are also maintaining competing blockades in the strategic waterway as part of broader efforts to increase pressure on one another.
The conflict has increasingly affected the wider region, particularly Yemen, where the Iran-backed Houthi movement has expanded its territorial control and launched attacks on Saudi Arabian targets, including the capital, Riyadh.
