The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced that it will start accepting nominations for the position of President and members of Parliament from May 17 to May 30, 2024.
The NEC on February 19, 2024, published a document containing the regulations governing the 2024 Presidential and Deputies elections.
These instructions state that the reception of nominations will be done at the headquarters of the Commission on working days, from 3:00 am to 5:00 pm.
When this process is completed, on June 6, 2024, the Commission will announce the provisional list of candidates approved for the position of President and Deputy, on June 14, it will be announced that they have been approved for good.
The NEC will announce the list of candidates for the position of the President of the Republic that has been approved, on the website of the Commission, on June 14, 2024.
The elections for the President of the Republic and the Deputies will be held on July 15, 2024.
In February 2023, the National Electoral Commission proposed that these two elections be combined.
The General Assembly of the Parliament, the Chamber of Deputies on July 5, 2023, voted for the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda. This Constitution contains an article combining the Presidential and Deputies elections, which will save the country up to 7 Billion Frw, which would have been used if they were held twice as usual.
