Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has condemned the reported blockade of Peter Obi from visiting Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area, accusing Governor Hyacinth Alia of being involved.

Ortom criticised the incident during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, describing it as evidence of what he called disregard for the rule of law in Benue.
He said Obi’s visit was intended to allow the presidential candidate to sympathise with victims of previous violence in the state.
“I condemn what happened yesterday. It is wrong not to allow Peter Obi to visit Benue and sympathise with those people whose people were killed,” Ortom said.
Ortom further alleged that Alia was aware of the incident and challenged the governor to swear otherwise.
“Governor Alia was one person who said, ‘No Alia, no Benue,’ and went to remove a Chief Judge through these thugs,” he alleged.
He added, “Alia himself, the governor of Benue State, is involved in this matter. He cannot deny that. I am not supporting Peter Obi. But it is wrong.”
Meanwhile, NDC national leader Seriake Dickson called for an investigation and prosecution of anyone found responsible for the incident
