Ethiopia's largest cement factory to operate soon

Ethiopia’s largest cement factory is set to start operating soon.

The Lemi National Cement Factory, once completed, will soon begin production according to company officials. The factory, currently under construction by Sinoma International Engineering Company, is expected to be finished in March. Once fully operational, the factory is anticipated to increase the country’s annual cement production capacity by 8 million metric tons.

Abebaw Bekele, the deputy manager of the factory, mentioned that the plant will address Ethiopia’s ongoing cement shortage, benefiting the flourishing construction industry. Moreover, the mega cement production facility is projected to generate job opportunities for around 20,000 Ethiopians.

The Lemi National Cement Factory, a joint venture of West International Holding, the African subsidiary of West China Cement, and East African Holding Company, is being constructed for 600 million U.S. dollars at Lemi Building Materials Industrial Park, located approximately 150 km north of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. Recently, company officials announced the successful installation of significant preheater frames and rotary kilns, key structures in the cement production process.
