The artificial intelligence (AI) researcher and one of the founding members of OpenAI, Andrej Karpathy, posted on the social media platform X, that he departed the firm on Monday. He said his immediate plan is to work on his projects and see what happens. Karpathy had joined OpenAI in his second stint last year.
He earlier was a senior director for AI at Tesla, where he developed the electric car manufacturer’s AI and driver assistant technology. This is a significant departure for OpenAI. Karpathy had recently commented on the idea of AI known as large language models acting as a new computer operating system.
He studied under the Stanford AI scientist Fei-Fei Li and joined OpenAI as one of the earliest staffers.
