Student leaders representing tertiary institutions across Nigeria’s 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election. The endorsement was announced during the inauguration of the students’ wing of Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a pro-Tinubu support group.
According to the student representatives, their decision was influenced by the Federal Government’s policies and programmes in the education sector, which they believe have contributed to improving opportunities for students across the region. They pledged to mobilise support for the president within campuses and local communities ahead of the next election.
Speaking at the event, supporters described the endorsement as a reflection of growing confidence in the administration’s agenda and its efforts to address challenges affecting young people. The students also expressed their commitment to expanding grassroots engagement and political participation among youths in northern Nigeria.
One of the student leaders stated, “We are for Asiwaju. Our support is based on what we have seen and the opportunities created for students and young people.”
The endorsement adds to a series of declarations of support from various political, youth, and community groups as discussions around the 2027 general election continue to gain momentum. President Tinubu had earlier received the backing of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to seek a second term in office.
While endorsements remain a common feature of Nigeria’s political landscape, the 2027 election is expected to attract significant attention as political parties, support groups, and stakeholders position themselves ahead of the official campaign period. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will ultimately oversee the electoral process in accordance with Nigeria’s electoral laws.
